The project will replace the existing structurally deficient, timber deck bridge with a new concrete structure with slightly wider travel lanes and paved shoulders. The project will also include new concrete abutments and wing walls with stone rip rap for slope protection.
The existing bridge was constructed in 1953.
During construction Route 607 (Cheaneys Bridge Road) will be closed at Dragon Run Creek for approximately 12 months. Drivers will be detoured approximately 5 miles around the closure using Route 612 and Route 684.
According to a recent VDOT traffic count, approximately 110 vehicles cross the structure daily.
Benefits
The new bridge will provide drivers a slightly wider bridge with paved shoulders to cross over Dragon Run Creek. The new structure will be constructed according to the current road and bridge standards.
