A design public hearing will be held for this project Tuesday, October 24, from 4-6 p.m. at Oak Point Elementary. Click to learn more.

The primary purpose of the project is to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Routes 11 and 660 on the southside of Interstate 81 near mile marker 40.9 in Smyth County. The project includes installing a new guardrail on the northeast and southweast sections of the roundabout.

The project is financed using funds throught VDOT's SMART SCALE program, which includes an application and scoring process to evaluate the projects statewide based on key factors such as improving safety and contributing to economic development.

During construction, motorists should be alert to periodic delays and the possibility of temporary detours. Route 11 carries approximately 4,900 vehicles per day.

Following the public meeting, the project design will be finalized. The project is anticipated to move to the right of way phase for any needed easements and/or utility relocations in July 2024. Construction is anticipated to begin November 2025.
