VDOT News - Staunton

STAUNTON –  (10:00 p.m.) Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District crews continue to monitor and treat roads throughout the Shenandoah Valley overnight into the early morning hours.  The January 3, 2022 snowstorm brought heavy snow during the morning hours.  Work by crews and afternoon sunshine have rendered interstate and primary roads in clear conditions.  Damp areas will be prone to refreezing as well as untreated secondary road surfaces.

VDOT continues to advise checking the Virginia 511 system at http://www.511Virginia.org prior to travel. Downed power lines and downed trees may have closed some roadways or caused delays across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VDOT crews continue to plow and treat roads.

Always drive defensively and use a seatbelt.

Here are the road conditions as of 10:00 p.m. in the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District:

Interstate 64 – Clear conditions in Alleghany, Rockbridge and Augusta counties.

Interstate 66 – Clear conditions in Warren County

Interstate 81 – Clear conditions in Rockbridge, Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Frederick counties.

Primary roads – Clear conditions in Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties

Secondary roads – Moderate conditions in Augusta County.  Minor conditions in Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Highland, Rockbridge and Alleghany counties. Clear conditions in Bath County.

Road condition definitions:

Severe – drifting or partially blocked road. 

Moderate – snow or ice on major portions of the roadway. 

Minor – bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush.
