EXPECT DELAYS ON I-81 NORTHBOUND IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY FOR CRASH CLEANUP

STAUNTON – (6:30 a.m.) Motorists using northbound Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County should expect traffic delays throughout the morning on Tuesday (March 23, 2021) due to cleanup from an overnight tractor trailer crash. The incident took place about 12:30 a.m. near mile marker 196.6, between exit 195 (Lexington) and exit 200 (Fairfield).

One of the trucks involved in the crash was hauling cooking oil, and crews continue cleanup operations in the center and right lanes. The left lane of I-81 northbound is open, but backups are expected as traffic levels increase during the morning hours. Drivers using Route 11 (Lee Highway) in the Lexington and Fairfield areas should be alert for related congestion.
