VDOT News - Staunton

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley:  Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 1 to 2, eastbound – Overnight right shoulder closure for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. March 21 to 7 a.m. March 22.

(NEW) Exit 16, eastbound – Off-ramp narrows for overnight guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. March 21 to 7 a.m. March 22.

(NEW) Mile marker 27 to 29, eastbound – Overnight right lane closure for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. March 21 to 7 a.m. March 22. 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.

Route 661 (Johnson Creek Road) – Closed between Route 600 (Indian Draft Road) and Route 781 (Rucker Gap Road) for slope repairs. Follow posted detour.

Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Road closed 24/7 through June 2 between Thacker Avenue and South Byrd Avenue for slope remediation. Follow posted detours.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 57 to 52, westbound –Right lane closures for bridge inspections at various locations, March 20-21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 179, northbound and southbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for survey work, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through March 23. 

Mile marker 174 to 205, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 29. 

(NEW) Mile marker 176 to 179, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspections over Route 692 and Cedar Creek. March 23-26 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 182 to 204, northbound – Overnight left lane and right shoulder closures for guardrail repairs at various locations. 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. March 18-21.  

(NEW) Mile marker 185 to 206, northbound and southbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for survey work. March 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 602 (Cabin Lane) – Flagger traffic control for inspection of I-64 overpass bridges, March 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 763 (Lincoln Road) – Flagger traffic control for inspection of I-64 westbound overpass bridge, March 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pothole patching, pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 94 to 95, eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for inspection of Route 340 overpass bridges. 7 p.m. March 23 to 9 a.m. March 25.  

(NEW) Mile marker 94 to 98 (Waynesboro area), eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for inspection of bridges over Norfolk-Southern railway, 7 p.m. March 18 to 7 a.m. March 19.

INTERSTATE 81  
(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 208, northbound and southbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for survey work. March 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mile marker 207 to 205, southbound – Right shoulder closures as needed for sign installations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 29.

(NEW) Mile marker 212 to 211, southbound – Overnight left lane closure for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. March 17 to 7 a.m. March 18.

(NEW) Mile marker 219 to 220, northbound and southbound – Overnight right lane closure for inspection of Route 647 overpass bridge, March 23-24 from 8p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 220 to 223, northbound and southbound – Right shoulders closed 24/7 through April 15 for ramp extension work at various locations.

(NEW) Mile marker 224 to 222, southbound – Overnight closures of left lane and both shoulders as needed for installation of pavement markers, through March 19 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 223, southbound – Right shoulder closures for shoulder work, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 29.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 229 to 227, southbound – Alternating overnight lane closures for bridge work over Middle River, through March 22 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 250 (Shenandoah Mountain Drive) – Slope repairs between Route 716 (West Augusta Road) and Highland County line. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot trucks March 18-22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Roadway width 10 feet. Road open to two-way traffic on weekends.

(NEW) Route 340 (East Side Highway) –Right shoulder closures for sign installation from Route 619 (Purple Cow Road) to Route 672 (Patrick Mill Lane). March 20-22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads (Swoope Area) – Debris cleanup at various locations. March 20-22 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Flagger traffic control for roadway improvements between Route 777 (Knightly Lane) and Route 926 (River Bend Drive), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 2019.

(NEW) Route 642 (Barrenridge Road) – Alternating lane closures for Rural Rustic Road improvements between Route 795 (Saint James Road) and Route 254 (Hermitage Road), 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 19.

Route 742 (Willow Spout Road) – Alternating lane closures for Rural Rustic Road improvements between Route 744 (Leaport Road) and Route 11 (Lee Highway), through March 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Route 753 (Nash Road) – Mobile lane closures as needed for Rural Rustic Road improvements between Route 42 (Scenic Highway) and Route 910 (Wampler Lane), through March 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads (Franks Mill Area) – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting or grading. March 18-22 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 245 to 249, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installations at multiple locations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 29.

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Right shoulder closures as needed for sign installations from Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) to Route 842 (Mountain Grove Road). March 20-22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) –Right shoulder closures as needed for sign installations in Elkton area, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 29. 

SECONDARY ROADS 

(NEW) Route 921 (Lairs Run Road) – Occasional flagger traffic control for replacement of bridge over the North Fork Shenandoah River, just west of Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road). Estimated project completion September 2020. 

 

PAGE COUNTY 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through June 2019 for replacement of Hawksbill Creek bridge. Follow posted detours.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 267 to 268, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures as needed for maintenance of Route 767 overpass bridge, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 14.

(NEW) Exit 279, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures along on- and off-ramps for bridge inspections, March 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Main Street/Old Valley Pike/Massanutten Street) – Right shoulder closures at various locations for sign installations. Through March 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 55 (John Marshall Highway, Strasburg) – Right shoulder closures from Banks Fort Road to Mineral Street for sign installations. Through March 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 670 (East Reservoir Road, Woodstock) – Right shoulder closures for sign installations between Water Street and Broadview Lane. Through March 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 758 (Woodstock Tower Road) – Closed between Stagecoach Road and Route 770 (Boliver Road, Fort Valley) for slope and roadway repairs. No estimated reopening date.

Route 767 (Quicksburg Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for maintenance of bridge over I-81. Through April 14 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for utility tree trimming. Monday to Friday during daylight hours.   

 

FREDERICK COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 315 to 316, northbound and southbound –Alternating shoulder closures for inspection of Route 744 overpass bridge. March 18-22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mile marker 319 to 317, southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 29. 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 50 (Millwood Pike) – Alternating lane closures for bridge inspection over Opequon Creek at Clarke County line. March 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 277 (Fairfax Pike, Stephens City) – Intermittent flagging and lane closures for utility/road widening work at Double Church Road intersection, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 1.

(NEW) Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) – Occasional lane closures for utility work from Route 645 (Airport Road) to Route 776 (Bufflick) Road, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 4. 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 644 (Papermill Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for right turn lane extension at Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) intersection, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 22.

Route 655 (Sulphur Springs Road) – Flagger controlled traffic as needed for roadway reconstruction between Route 50 (Millwood Pike) and Route 656 (Greenwood Road). Flagging may also take place on Route 656 near the intersection with Route 655. Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
