TRAFFIC ALERT: WESTBOUND ROUTE 460 RIGHT LANE IN GILES COUNTY RESTORED WITH MUDSLIDE REPAIRS COMPLETE

SALEM – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has reopened the right lane of westbound Route 460 in Giles County near Rich Creek. With this lane open, all lanes of Route 460 now have been restored to traffic following the mudslide that occurred on Feb. 21.

The right westbound lane of Route 460 has been closed since Feb. 21 due to the mudslide that had blocked all four lanes. The two eastbound lanes and the left westbound lane of Route 460 have been open since Feb. 25.

VDOT has completed repairs to stabilize the slope next to the westbound road shoulder and determined that the last closed lane could safely reopen to traffic.

Since Feb. 21, VDOT has removed more than 1,000 cubic yards of material from the slide location. This includes dirt and debris in the roadway and from the slope along westbound Route 460.
