VDOT PRESENTS ROUTE 220 MARTINSVILLE SOUTHERN CONNECTOR DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT AT HEARING ON SEPTEMBER 1
Public invited to comment on VDOT’s environmental analysis and technical documentation
SALEM — On Tuesday, September 1, from 3 to 7 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing for the Martinsville Southern Connector Study Route 220 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The hearing will be held at Jack Dalton Park, located at 130 Jack Dalton Road in Collinsville.
This hearing, rescheduled from March 26, 2020, will provide an opportunity for the public to discuss the Draft EIS with VDOT representatives. The public is encouraged to view the Draft EIS and public hearing materials online at www.virginiadot.org/
No more than 50 people at a time will be permitted inside the meeting venue. Face coverings are encouraged, and attendees should observe the social distancing guides in place at the venue.
Those who have questions for VDOT representatives or need in-person assistance are invited to attend and view the results of the draft study that analyzes potential improvements between the U.S. Route 58/220 Bypass and the North Carolina state line. The Draft EIS, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act, presents the potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed transportation improvements.
The Draft EIS documents the purpose and need, range of alternatives and an analysis of the impacts of each alternative on a host of social and environmental resources. The Draft EIS also identifies the preferred alternative to be analyzed in a Final EIS. The Draft EIS was made available for public review and comment beginning on March 6, 2020.
Written comments on the Draft EIS can be submitted at the public hearing. They also can be submitted by September 11, 2020, through the study website, via email to Martinsville220@VDOT.Virginia.
Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this hearing may contact VDOT Salem District Civil Rights at 540-387-5552 or TTY/TDD 711.
Editor's Note: In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines, VDOT staff will conduct phone interviews. Please contact Jason Bond at 540-387-5493 to schedule.
