SALEM — On Thursday, August 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing for the Route 220 Martinsville Southern Connector Study Environmental Impact Statement at Drewry Mason Elementary School, located at 45 Drewry Mason School Road in Ridgeway.

In February 2018, VDOT, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), initiated the Route 220 Martinsville Southern Connector Study, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that evaluates potential improvements to the Route 220 corridor in Henry County between the Route 58/Route 220 Bypass and the North Carolina state line.

The hearing will be an open house format and provide an opportunity for the public to discuss the study with VDOT representatives and provide input on the preferred alternative. The hearing will include a video presentation that will run throughout the evening.

Following the public hearing and action by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, FHWA will publish the EIS. The publication of the EIS will be announced to the public and there will be another opportunity to review materials online or at a future public hearing tentatively scheduled for January 2020.

Comments will be accepted through August 25, 2019.
