HENRICO, Va. — At its monthly meeting, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded a contract worth approximately $6.6 million to Allan Myers VA Inc. of Glen Allen, Virginia, to add dual left turn lanes on Patterson Avenue (state Route 6) and Parham Road where the roadways intersect in Henrico County.

Turn lane installation

The work will enhance safety and capacity at the intersection by adding two left turn lanes at both Patterson Avenue approaches and extending the eastbound right turn lane. Additionally, two left turn lanes will be installed at the northbound approach on Parham Road, as well as a “right turn only” lane. The median on southbound Parham Road at Wetherly Drive will be closed to allow more vehicles to use the left turn lane. Parham Road and all other secondary routes within county limits are maintained by Henrico County.

Signal and pedestrian accommodations

The signal at the intersection will be replaced and updated. Additionally, pedestrian sidewalks will be provided along Parham Road on the east side, south of Patterson Avenue and on the west side, north of the intersection. At the intersection, crosswalks will be provided to cross both Patterson Avenue and Parham Road.

Traffic control and timeline

Traffic will be maintained with at least one open lane in each direction throughout the project. During construction, access will be maintained for local businesses and residences. Weather permitting, work is expected to begin in spring 2021 and end in fall 2022.
