SOUTH CHESTERFIELD—Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a shoulder improvement project on Huguenot Trail (Rt. 711) in Powhatan County on Monday, April 13. The project is expected to be completed in Summer 2020.

Crews will be working to stabilize and pave the shoulders in three segments, and will resurface the road later this year as part of the statewide paving schedule. After the road is paved, crews will replace the white edge lines, allowing more shoulder room for errant vehicles to correct.

The goal of the project is to increase safety by minimizing incidents involving motorists running off the road.

The three shoulder segments included in the project are listed below:

• Approximately 2300 feet between Judes Ferry Road and Saint Mary’s Way
• Approximately 1000 feet just east of the intersection with Elioch Manor Drive
• Approximately 800 feet in the curve just west of the intersection with Happy Hollow Drive

These locations were prioritized by the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors, which amended its Secondary Six Year Plan to add this shoulder improvement project.
