Right Turn from Monument Drive North to I-66 East Closing for Approximately Six Months beginning Monday, February 21, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
Update (2/18): Right turn from Monument Drive North to I-66 East prohibited for about six months starting on or about Tuesday night, 2/22 (backup is Wednesday night, 2/23, if inclement weather occurs).
FAIRFAX – Beginning on or about Monday, February 21, the right turn from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The ramp closure will remain in place for approximately six months.
Drivers will be directed farther north to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Fair Lakes Parkway to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.
Pedestrians and cyclists using the shared-use path on the east side of Monument Drive between I-66 and Government Center Parkway will be directed to follow a temporary path provided between barriers.
Some Fairfax Connector bus routes will be modified to accommodate the closure and detour. Visit https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information on bus routes and schedules.
Monument Drive at I-66 is being modified to add full-time access to the new I-66 Express Lanes to and from the east and west. A new parking garage and transit center is also being built with project funding at the intersection of Monument Drive and Government Center Parkway, adjacent to the I-66 Express Lanes ramps at Monument Drive.
