Repair Work to Begin on George Washington Memorial Parkway Bridges over Capital Beltway
Single lane closures to start in mid-October for 495 NEXT construction

MCLEAN, VA – Starting on or about September 26, 495 NEXT project crews will begin repair work on the east- and westbound George Washington Memorial Parkway bridges over the Capital Beltway. This work will occur during nighttime hours and will include some noisy activities such as sawing and hammering. Repairs include patching isolated areas that have potholes, uneven payment and other similar roadway damages. The repair work is planned to extend into late October.

Beginning in mid-October, crews will be implementing extended single lane closures on both bridges for deck repair work. One lane will be closed on the eastbound bridge and one lane will be closed on the westbound bridge - leaving one travel lane open in each direction - from the night of Friday, October 14 through the night of Sunday, October 16, and again from the night of Friday, October 21 through the night of Sunday, October 23.

This work is part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project to extend the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge.
