FAIRFAX – The ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard East to I-66 West near the Vienna/Fairfax - GMU Metrorail Station is scheduled to close for approximately six weeks on or about Friday, May 13, for continued construction at the Nutley Street/I-66 Interchange for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Drivers heading to I-66 West will be directed to continue to Nutley Street South to access I-66 West.
Details include:
Friday, May 13
Ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard East to I-66 West
- The ramp will close around 10 a.m.
- Drivers will be directed to continue east on Virginia Center Boulevard to Nutley Street. At the traffic signal, turn right to Nutley Street South, then turn left at the traffic signal to access the ramp to I-66 West.
- The closure is anticipated to last for approximately six weeks.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The future ramp from Vaden Drive to the westbound 66 Express Lanes will be open for buses only during this period to assist in maintaining their service schedules. No other vehicles will be allowed to use the ramp during this time.
Drivers should be alert for changing traffic patterns on Nutley Street near I-66 as construction continues throughout 2022. Drivers are reminded to slow down and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs.
When construction is complete, the new Nutley Street Interchange will feature two roundabouts, which will provide safer and more efficient travel for vehicles entering and exiting I-66, and improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians traveling on Nutley Street.
