Overnight Ramp Closures, Traffic Pattern Change Planned for I-66 East Ramp to Route 50 East and West October 12

FAIRFAX – The ramps from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West will be closed Wednesday, October 12, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift and traffic pattern change.

Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West or Route 50 East.

When the exit from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West (Exit 57 A/B) reopens during the early morning hours Thursday, October 13, the entrance will have been shifted about one-half mile west of (prior to) the old location and immediately before the Monument Drive Bridge over I-66. This will be the permanent location of Exit 57 A/B as part of the Transform 66 Outside of the Beltway Project.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled to the following night if inclement conditions occur.

Drivers should always use caution and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs in construction zones.

The I-66/Route 50 Interchange is being rebuilt to add Express Lanes access to and from the east and to construct a new shared-use path as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Construction and lane closure updates are available at Transform66.org and on Twitter @VaDOTNOVA. To receive project updates automatically by email, sign up here.
