FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and stoppages are planned on I-66 West approaching Gallows Road Wednesday, September 14, through Saturday, September 17, for continued installation of bridge beams for the new Gallows Road South Bridge over I-66. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Additionally, Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction during the overnight hours on September 14. Two-way traffic will run on Gallows Road North.  

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Wednesday, September 14
Gallows Road over I-66

• Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The southbound side of Gallows Road will be closed and two-way traffic will run on the northbound side during this period.
• All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road

• Two lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West

• One lane on the ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Ramp from 495 Express Lanes South to I-66 West

• The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Overhead message boards will direct drivers to alternate routes.
• The ramp will reopen by 5 a.m.

Thursday, September 15, through Saturday, September 17
I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road

• Three lanes will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West

• One lane on the ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Ramp from 495 Express Lanes South to I-66 West

• The ramp will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Overhead message boards will direct drivers to alternate routes.
• The ramp will reopen by 5 a.m.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

Gallows Road over I-66 is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The bridge is being lengthened, widened, raised, and shifted to the east to accommodate the new Express Lanes and provide room for future improvements along Gallows Road.
