UPDATE (6/30): Lane closures on I-66 East will begin at 9 p.m. tonight, June 30, to provide additional time for crews to complete this work.

FAIRFAX – Two travel lanes on I-66 West approaching Monument Drive in Fairfax will be closed during overnight hours Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25, as bridge beams are installed to widen the bridge. Overhead bridge beam installation will continue during overnight hours next week, Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, with I-66 West approaching Monument Drive reduced to a single travel lane Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday nights, eastbound I-66 traffic will be directed into a single travel lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Monument Drive South over I-66 also will be reduced to a single travel lane with stoppages during this work.

Drivers traveling on I-66 during this time should expect delays and consider using alternate routes.  

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25
I-66 West from Route 50 to Monument Drive

• Two lanes will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

Monument Drive South at I-66

• One lane will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
• All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

Monday, June 27, and Tuesday, June 28
I-66 West from Route 50 to Monument Drive

• Three lanes will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Monument Drive South at I-66

• One lane will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Wednesday, June 29, and Thursday, June 30
I-66 East from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) to Route 50

• All eastbound traffic will be directed into a single travel lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

• One lane will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

The Monument Drive Bridge over I-66 is being modified and widened to add full-time Express Lanes access to the east and west. In addition, a new parking garage and transit center are being built with project funding adjacent to the Express Lanes ramps at Monument Drive.
