FAIRFAX - VDOT Northern Virginia crews will continue to monitor for ice and treat roads overnight. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution and be aware of the potential for refreeze, even on previously treated areas and especially on elevated surfaces.

What's Happening Now

• Crews have been working since last night to treat state-maintained roads in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties. Where crews have completed the interstates and most primaries, they continue to actively clear roads in neighborhoods. Residents can monitor the progress of plows at www.vdotplows.org.

• Where crews aim for bare pavement on interstates and primaries, in neighborhoods, crews make roads passable via an 8- to 10-foot path for emergency vehicle access. It is drivable with extreme caution, but is snow-packed and not curb-to-curb or to bare pavement. Crews will sand hills, curves and intersections to help with traction.

• The ongoing below-freezing temperatures continue to be of concern, as wet pavement surfaces can quickly become icy.

• Wind gusts will possibly bring down trees, branches, and power lines. Tree removal crews continue to remove trees from the roadway.

• Crews will stay on tonight to treat areas that are prone to refreezing, as well as bridges, ramps, and overpasses.

Reminders for Residents and Drivers:

• Residents who are concerned that their state-maintained road might have been missed (more than 24 hours after snowfall ended in this case) can contact the Customer Service Center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) or my.vdot.virginia.gov.

• If you must drive, ensure headlights are on, drive for the conditions, and be familiar with these winter driving tips.
