PRINCE WILLIAM – Give feedback on transportation studies assessing potential improvements for about three miles of Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville, and for about a mile of Route 294 (Prince William Parkway) in Woodbridge.

The Route 29 study is assessing potential safety and congestion improvements from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Linton Hall Road (Route 619). The study is also assessing bicycle/pedestrian improvements.

The Route 294 study is assessing potential safety, congestion and bicycle/pedestrian improvements from Smoketown Road (Route 642) to Caton Hill Road (Route 849).

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites residents and travelers to learn more and share feedback online at VAProjectPipeline.org. Additional study information, background materials and presentations are now available. Online surveys are available for public comment through Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Community input received through these surveys will help the study teams further refine and finalize potential improvements. The study partners may consider recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.

These studies are being conducted as part of a new program, Project Pipeline, created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including Smart Scale, Revenue Sharing, interstate funding, and others.

Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT, and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The Commonwealth is partnering with Prince William County to develop targeted improvements for the Route 29 and Route 294 studies that minimize community impacts and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. The final plans will provide multimodal investment strategies that can be used to seek and secure funding.
