Alban Road over Accotink Creek Bridge Closure in Newington Begins Aug. 13
Update: Bridge reopened to traffic Sept. 2 following repairs

Update: The bridge reopened to traffic Sept. 2.

NEWINGTON
– The Alban Road (Route 790) bridge over Accotink Creek will be closed to traffic Saturday, Aug. 13 for about five weeks to make repairs, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be detoured via Alban Road, Rolling Road (Route 638), Fullerton Road (Route 4502) and Boudinot Drive back to Alban Road.

Those needing to reach properties along Alban Road will have access; however, traffic will not be able to go beyond the bridge in either direction.

The bridge work includes removing all deteriorated concrete and repairing with new concrete and reinforcing steel.

The bridge was originally built in 1950 and repaired in 1991. It carries about 10,700 vehicles a day.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic in late September with the project scheduled for final completion later this fall.
