Route 7 Westbound Nighttime Lane Closures in Leesburg Oct. 13
Traffic stoppages during overhead sign work as part of Route 7 at Battlefield Parkway project

LEESBURG – The two left lanes of westbound Route 7 (East Market Street) between Battlefield Parkway and Cardinal Park Drive will be closed, weather permitting, from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 to remove and replace overhead signs, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Also, intermittent traffic stoppages lasting up to 20 minutes each will occur between midnight and 4 a.m.

In June, the new interchange at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway, including a new auxiliary lane on eastbound Route 7 from the Battlefield Parkway on-ramp to the River Creek Parkway/Crosstrail Boulevard off-ramp opened to traffic. Also, the traffic signal at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive was removed and the Route 7/Cardinal Park Drive intersection was converted to a permanent right-in/right-out configuration.

Construction will continue through November to finish the remaining elements of the project, including constructing a shared-use path along northbound Battlefield Parkway, a sidewalk along southbound Battlefield Parkway, pedestrian signals and lighting.

The posted speed limit along Route 7 will continue to be reduced to 45 miles per hour between the Leesburg Bypass and River Creek Parkway until construction is complete.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
