Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges September 24- October 2, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Wednesday, September 29, through Friday, October 1
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for drainage work. Traffic will be directed further south to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North, and then follow signs to I-66 East.

Tuesday, September 28, and Wednesday, September 29
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for crews to implement a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramps from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North and South to I-66 East 
Sunday night, September 26, and Monday night, September 27: Midnight to 4 a.m.  
The ramps will be closed. Traffic from both directions will be directed to Route 50 East (Route 286 South traffic will be notified prior to the closure/Route 286 North traffic will continue farther north), travel about two miles then follow signs to I-66 East. 

Sunday, September 26, Wednesday, September 29, and Thursday, September 30
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each night for paving work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Saturday, September 25, Sunday, September 26, and Wednesday, September 29 (and Thursday, September 30 will be back up)
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday and Sunday night, and from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesday night for paving and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Fairfax County Parkway South, stay to the right and take the exit to I-66 East, then exit to Route 50 West.  

Friday, September 24, and Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday night and Sunday through Tuesday nights, and from midnight to 4 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights for paving and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure to Route 50 East, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West.

Sunday, September 26, through Tuesday, September 28
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West
The ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal on to Route 123 North, stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 West, then exit to Route 50 East or Route 50 West.

Wednesday, September 29, and Thursday, September 30
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. each night for ramp work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East.

Tuesday night, September 28, through Friday night, October 1
Ramp from Route 123 North/ South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for earthwork. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, take the exit to Route 50 East, stay to the left and take the exit to I-66 East. (Note: This closure will not occur on night(s) when the detour route is not available due to other closures.)

Monday, September 27, through Thursday, September 30
Ramp from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night for ramp work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, take the exit to Route 123, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 East.

Friday night, October 1, through Monday morning, October 4
Ramp from Nutley Street North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed starting at 8 p.m. Friday continuously through 5 a.m. Monday for paving work. Traffic will be directed further north, stay to the left at the intersection with Virginia Center Boulevard and make a U-turn from the left-most turn lane, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Tuesday night, September 28, through Friday night, October 1 
Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street North and South 
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for survey work. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit for Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the traffic signal turn left to Nutley Street North or turn right to Nutley Street South. 

Tuesday night, September 28, and Friday night, October 1
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North/South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for ramp work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to I-495 North, continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, exit to I-66 West, then take the exit to Nutley Street North or South.  

Wednesday, September 29, through Friday, October 1
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night for bridge pier work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, then take the exit to Nutley Street, stay to the left to Nutley Street South and turn left at the traffic signal on to southbound Nutley Street, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 East.  

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
