Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges, October 11-16, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Details include:
Tuesday night, October 12, and Wednesday night, October 13
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to exit the interstate (prior to the Route 29 exit) to Route 28 South, travel south then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Thursday, October 14, through Saturday, October 16
Ramp from Route 29 North and South Centreville to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Friday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. for paving, a traffic shift, and bridge demolition. Route 29 South traffic will be directed farther south past the closed exit, make a U-turn at Stone Road, follow signs to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Route 29 North traffic will be directed to Route 28 North to I-66 East.
Tuesday night, October 12, through Thursday night, October 14
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 North, and stay to the right to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Wednesday, October 13, and Thursday, October 14
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Drivers will be detoured to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South and I-66 East.
Wednesday, October 13, and Thursday, October 14
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther west to the exit to Route 29 Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Wednesday, October 13, and Thursday, October 14
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 29 North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Tuesday, October 12, through Saturday, October 16
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday nights from midnight to 4 a.m.; Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.; Friday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. for retaining wall inspection, paving, and bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to exit the interstate (prior to the Route 28 North exit) to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North.
Tuesday night, October 12; Wednesday night, October 13; Friday, October 15; and Saturday, October 16
Ramps from Nutley Street North to I-66 East and Nutley Street South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday nights from midnight to 4 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic in both directions will be directed to I-66 West, exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to Route 123 South, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 East.
Tuesday night, October 12, through Friday night, October 15
Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street North and South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for survey work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the traffic signal turn left to Nutley Street North or right to Nutley Street South.

Ramp from Nutley Street North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night. Traffic will be directed farther north, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most left turn lane at the intersection with Virginia Center Boulevard, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Tuesday, October 12, through Thursday, October 14
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north to the exit to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, and then follow signs to I-66 East.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
