Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges, November 7-13, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Sunday, November 7
Ramp from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a lane shift. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 East, to Route 234 Business North, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 West. 

Monday, November 8
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Bypass
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a lane shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, exit to Route 234 Business North, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass. 

Friday, November 12 (The hours for this planned closure have not yet been approved)
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday for paving.  Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, stay to the right, then exit to Route 29 South.  

Monday night, November 8; Tuesday night, November 9; and Friday night, November 12
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed Monday night from midnight to 4 a.m., and Tuesday and Friday nights from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift and fence work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)

Monday night, November 8; Tuesday night, November 9; and Friday night, November 12
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed Monday and Tuesday nights from midnight to 4 a.m., and Friday night from midnight to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift and fence work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North, then stay left to the Braddock Road/Walney Road left exit. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)

Tuesday night, November 9
Ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.  

Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13
Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed each night from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for a traffic shift. Southbound traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 South, continue for about one mile, and follow signs to I-66 East. Northbound traffic will also be directed to Route 29 South (prior to the closed ramp), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, continue for about one mile and follow signs to I-66 East. 

Tuesday night, November 9
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs for I-66 East. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)

Tuesday night, November 9
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to Route 50 West, travel to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, and then stay to the right to Route 50 East.  

Thursday night, November 11
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then exit to Route 50 East. 

Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for drainage installation each night. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. One lane will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. each morning.   

Monday night, November 8, and Tuesday night, November 9
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North and South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. nightly. Traffic will be detoured farther east to I-495 North, continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, exit to I-66 West, then exit to Nutley Street North or South. (Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with other detours.)

Tuesday night, November 9
Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West (prior to the closure), exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 East.     


Monday, November 8, through Saturday, November 13
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed Monday through Thursday nights from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge pier work. Traffic traveling to I-66 West will be directed to continue farther north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, and then follow signs to I-66 West. Traffic traveling to I-66 East will be directed to continue farther north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, and then follow signs to I-66 East.  

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
