Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week, August 15-21, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Details include:
Sunday, August 15
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for crews to implement a traffic shift on I-66 East. Traffic will be directed to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North (prior to the exit to Route 28 North), stay to the right and then follow signs to Route 28 North.
Sunday, August 15
Ramps from Route 29 North and South in Centreville to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. to implement a traffic shift on I-66 East. Northbound Route 29 traffic will be directed to travel about one mile farther to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Southbound Route 29 traffic will be detoured farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at Stone Road on to Route 29 North, stay to the right to Route 28 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Monday night, August 16, through Thursday night, August 19
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for fence work. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Route 29, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, travel about one mile, then follow signs to Route 28 North.
Monday night, August 16, through Saturday night, August 21
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 Centreville
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 28 North, stay to the left to Braddock Road/Walney Road, turn left at the traffic signal on to Braddock Road West, follow signs to turn left to the ramp to I-66 West, then take I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville.
Monday night, August 16, through Friday night, August 20
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North and South
The ramp will be closed Monday through Thursday nights from midnight to 4 a.m., and Friday night from midnight to 5 a.m. for striping and to move barrier.Traffic will be directed farther east to I-495 North, travel to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then exit to I-66 West and continue to Nutley Street. (Note: This closure will not occur on night(s) when the detour route is not available due to other closures.)
Tuesday night, August 17, through Saturday night, August 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed Tuesday through Thursday nights from midnight to 4 a.m. and Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue west on I-66 to the exit to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right, take the ramp to I-66 East, and then follow signs to Route 50 West.
Tuesday night, August 17, through Saturday night, August 21
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed Tuesday through Thursday nights from midnight to 4 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from midnight to 5 a.m. for a ramp shift and bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Tuesday night, August 17
Ramp from 495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for crane demobilization. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, continue to the exit to Nutley Street, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South, then stay to the left to turn left at the next traffic signal to reach I-66 East.
Friday, August 20, and Saturday, August 21
Ramp from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to reach I-66 East.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
