Overnight Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-495 North and South at I-66 Next Week, Feb. 9-12, for Overhead Bridge Work
FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages are planned on I-495 North and South at I-66 Tuesday, February 9, through Friday, February 12, for overhead bridge work on I-66. The ramp from I-66 East to the 495 Express Lanes South will also be closed. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Tuesday, February 9
I-495 North from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to I-66
- The I-495 North general-purpose lanes will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Wednesday, February 10, through Friday, February 12
I-495 North and South between Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and Route 29
- The I-495 North and South general-purpose lanes will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes in both directions between midnight and 4 a.m. nightly.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Ramp from I-66 East to 495 Express Lanes South
- The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Drivers on eastbound I-66 will be directed to stay to the right to use the I-495 South general-purpose lanes.
- The ramp will reopen by 5 a.m.
Message boards on I-495 are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
