FAIRFAX – Lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 West and I-495 South continue during the overnight hours Friday, April 23, Saturday, April 24, and next week, Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29, as bridge beam installation and partial bridge demolition continue at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers traveling on I-66 and I-495 these nights should expect delays throughout the week as I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane at I-495 and multiple lanes will be closed on I-495 South at I-66. Full traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each will occur several times each night on both roadways.   

On Wednesday night, April 28, the ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South will also be closed with a detour posted.

Drivers should consider using alternate routes during these times.

Friday, April 23; Saturday, April 24; and Monday, April 26, through Thursday, April 29
I-66 West at I-495

• I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-495 nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (to 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday).
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. (by 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday).

I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66

• I-495 South approaching I-66 will reduced to two travel lanes the nights of Friday, April 23, and Monday, April 26 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (to 6 a.m. Saturday). On Saturday night, April 24, and the nights of Tuesday, April 27, through Thursday, April 29, I-495 South approaching I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. (by 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday).

Wednesday, April 28
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South

• The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal on to Nutley Street South, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.
• As an alternate route, the ramp from I-66 West to the 495 South Express Lanes will remain open.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being modified with several new ramps and connections as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Improvements at the interchange include adding access to and from the existing 495 Express Lanes and the new I-66 Express Lanes, as well as building new connections between express and general purpose lanes.
