FAIRFAX – Lane closures, traffic stoppages, and ramp closures on I-66 East at I-495 are planned during the overnight hours again next week, Monday, November 15, through Thursday, November 18, as crews continue installing beams for a new flyover ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

During the overnight hours Monday, November 15, through Thursday, November 18, from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly, all lanes of I-66 East will be closed over I-495. Traffic will be detoured using I-495 North and Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East.

The ramps from I-495 North to I-66 East, I-495 North to I-66 West, and the 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 East will also be closed nightly in conjunction with this work. Detours will be posted. 

Drivers traveling on I-66 and I-495 during this time should expect delays and consider using alternate routes. 

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled should inclement conditions occur.

Details include:  

Monday, November 15, through Thursday, November 18
I-66 East over I-495 North

• Two lanes will be closed approaching I-495 North from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. nightly.
• Each night between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. I-66 East will be closed over I-495 North.
• All eastbound I-66 traffic will be directed to I-495 North, exit to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.
• All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West

• The ramp will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly.
• Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then exit to I-66 West. 
• The ramp will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East

• The ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly.
• Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.
• The ramp will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Ramp from 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 East

• The ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. nightly.
• Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to alternate routes.

The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being modified with several new ramps and connections as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Improvements at the interchange include adding access to and from the existing 495 Express Lanes and the new I-66 Express Lanes, as well as building new connections between express and general purpose lanes.
