REMINDER + UPDATE (12/10):
Beam lifts are now anticipated to continue through Monday night, December 13. Hours for lane and ramp closures will be the same as for Sunday night, December 12.  

FAIRFAX – Lane closures and ramp closures on I-495 North and I-66 East continue during the overnight hours this weekend, December 10-12, as bridge beam installation continues at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

During the overnight hours Friday, December 10, through Sunday, December 12, all northbound I-495 traffic will be crossed over to the 495 Express Lanes North approaching I-66. Drivers will not be charged for using the Express Lanes for the detour.

The ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North will also be closed with a detour posted during this period.  

Drivers traveling on I-495 North should expect delays as nightly lane closures will reduce the roadway to a single travel lane approaching the I-66/I-495 Interchange.  

Drivers should consider using alternate routes during these times.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled should inclement conditions occur.

Friday, December 10, through Sunday, December 12
I-495 North approaching to I-66

• I-495 North approaching I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane Friday night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and Sunday night from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
• Around 10 p.m. each night, all northbound I-495 traffic will be crossed over into the 495 Express Lanes North at I-66. Drivers will not be charged for using the Express Lanes for the detour.    
• All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday; by 8 a.m. Sunday; and by 4 a.m. Monday.

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (the beginning of the Express Lanes) to I-66

• The northbound Express Lanes will be reduced to a single travel lane Friday night from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.; Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.; and Sunday night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
• Drivers will not be changed for using the Express Lanes north of I-66.

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

• The ramp will be closed Friday night from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.; Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.; and Sunday night from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
• Traffic will be directed to take the left exit to the 495 Express Lanes North. Drivers will not be charged for using the Express Lanes for the detour.

The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being modified with several new ramps and connections as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Improvements at the interchange include adding access to and from the existing 495 Express Lanes and the new I-66 Express Lanes, as well as building new connections between express and general purpose lanes.
