Overnight Full Closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66 Planned April 12 and 14
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 North and from Route 286 North to I-66 West also closed
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the overnight closures planned for Monday and Wednesday nights have been rescheduled to Tuesday night, April 13, and Thursday night, April 15.
FAIRFAX – Overnight full closures of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66 are planned Monday, April 12, and Wednesday, April 14, to allow crews to relocate a crane for continued construction of new I-66 bridge foundations. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
The ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North, the ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West, and two lanes on Route 286 South will also be closed during this time. The left-most lane of northbound and southbound Route 286 will remain closed during the daytime hours to accommodate construction activity.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Monday, April 12, and Wednesday, April 14
Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66
- Around 8 p.m. nightly, northbound Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane.
- Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, all lanes of Route 286 North at I-66 will be closed.
- All northbound traffic will be directed to exit on to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.
- By 5 a.m. Tuesday, two lanes will reopen, with the left-most lane remaining closed throughout the daytime hours.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North
- The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West
- The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- Traffic will be directed to exit to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, then stay to the right to I-66 West.
Route 286 South at I-66
- From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, southbound Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane. A second lane will reopen by 5 a.m. daily, with the left-most lane remaining closed during the daytime hours.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
