Overnight Closures, Stoppages of I-66 West and I-495 North Planned August 10-12 for Overhead Bridge Work at I-66/I-495 Interchange
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North will be closed

FAIRFAX – Nightly lane closures, ramp closures, and traffic stoppages will be needed next week on I-66 West and I-495 North, Tuesday, August 10, through Thursday, August 12, for bridge beam installation at the I-66/I-495 Interchange as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Work planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights will reduce I-66 West approaching I-495 to a single travel lane with multiple 20-minute traffic stoppages during the overnight hours. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, I-495 North approaching I-66 will have multiple 20-minutes stoppages and lane reductions with two lanes open (Tuesday) and a single lane open (Thursday).
The ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North is scheduled to be closed Thursday night. Drivers will be directed to stay to the left to take the exit to the 495 Express Lanes North. They will not be charged for using the detour to the 495 Express Lanes.
Drivers traveling on I-66 and I-495 during this time should expect delays and should consider using alternate routes.

Tuesday, August 10
I-66 West at I-495
- I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-495 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
I-495 North at I-66
- Two left lanes will be closed on I-495 North approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
495 Express Lanes North at I-66
- One right lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
- The ramp will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Wednesday, August 11
I-66 West at I-495
- I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-495 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
- The ramp will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Thursday, August 12
I-66 West at I-495
- I-66 West will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-495 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
I-495 North at I-66
- I-495 North will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching I-66 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
- The ramp from will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
- Traffic will be directed to continue east and stay to the left to take the exit to the 495 Express Lanes North. Drivers will not be charged for using the Express Lanes for the detour.
- The ramp will reopen at 4 a.m.
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
- The ramp will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being modified with several new ramps and connections as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Improvements at the interchange include adding access to and from the existing 495 Express Lanes and the new I-66 Express Lanes, as well as building new connections between express lanes and general purpose lanes.
