The Virginia Department of Transportation reminds drivers to delay nonessential travel Monday morning. While major routes in Northern Virginia are mostly clear, freezing temperatures, along with freezing rain and drizzle, mean any pavement that looks wet may be icy. Additional winter weather is expected through the day.

See the latest Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service covering VDOT's Northern Virginia District through 10 a.m. Monday. More freezing rain and snow are expected today.

Interstates, primary roads, and heavily traveled secondary roads are mostly clear and wet, but crews continue to treat for additional precipitation and refreeze.

Crews also continue clearing snow and treating icy spots on neighborhood and lower-volume roads. Residents can check the progress of plows in neighborhoods at www.vdotplows.org.

Key Reminders Monday:

Delay nonessential trips this morning. Roads that were previously plowed or treated will refreeze, so give crews time to retreat and plow where needed.

Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle before driving. Turn on headlights, drive for the conditions and use extreme caution on areas prone to freezing such as bridges, ramps and overpasses. See more winter driving tips.
