UPDATE (8/26/2021): This work has been rescheduled to Saturday night, August 28.

FAIRFAX – The travel lanes on I-66 East between Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) and Route 50 will be shifted to new pavement along the right side (outer portion) of I-66 on or about Friday night, August 27. To implement this traffic shift, I-66 East approaching Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane during the overnight hours of August 27, and all eastbound I-66 traffic will travel in a single lane on the eastbound collector-distributor lane through the I-66 East/Route 286 Interchange. 

The ramp from Monument Drive to I-66 East will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to accommodate this work. Following the traffic shift, drivers entering I-66 East from Monument Drive will not be able to access the exit to Route 50 East. 

This is one of many traffic shifts occurring along I-66 between Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville and I-495 this year as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Traffic is being shifted to new pavement on the outer portions of I-66 as construction advances for the future I-66 Express Lanes in the center of the roadway.

Drivers traveling on I-66 during this time should expect delays and should consider using alternate routes.

Friday, August 27
I-66 East between Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) and Route 50

• I-66 East will be reduced to a single travel lane approaching Route 286 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• All eastbound I-66 traffic will travel in a single lane on the eastbound collector-distributor lane through the I-66/Route 286 Interchange.
• The I-66 East ramps to/from Route 286 will remain open.

• The ramp will reopen by 6 a.m. 

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled to Saturday night, August 28, if inclement conditions occur.
