Gallows Road over I-66 to be Reduced to a Single Travel Lane in Each Direction during Overnight Hours Next Weekend, May 21 -22, for Continued Utility Work

FAIRFAX – Gallows Road over I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during the overnight hours Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.  The southbound side of Gallows Road will be closed with two-way traffic running on the northbound side. The closures are necessary for utility work on the bridge as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22
Gallows Road North and South over I-66

  • The southbound side of Gallows Road will be closed between Stenhouse Place and Avenir Place with a single lane of traffic traveling in each direction on the northbound side between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Southbound drivers on Gallows Road will not be allowed to turn right to Avenir Place or left on to Bellforest Drive.
  • Drivers on Avenir Place and Bellforest Drive will not be allowed to turn left on to Gallows Road.
  • All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

Gallows Road over I-66 is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The bridge is being lengthened, widened, raised, and shifted to the east to accommodate the new Express Lanes and provide room for future improvements along Gallows Road. Bike lanes and wider sidewalks are also being added along Gallows Road.
