Full Closure of I-66 West at Route 50 in Fairfax Planned Wednesday Night, September 29, for a Traffic Shift
Multiple ramp closures, detours will be in place during overnight hours

FAIRFAX – All lanes of I-66 West approaching Route 50 will be closed during the overnight hours Wednesday, September 29, for crews to shift I-66 West travel lanes to new pavement along the right side (outer portion) of the roadway. Multiple ramps at the I-66 West/Route 50 Interchange will also be closed. The Route 50 interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

This is one of many traffic shifts occurring along I-66 between Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville and I-495 this year as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Traffic is being shifted to new pavement on the outer portions of I-66 as construction advances for the future I-66 Express Lanes in the center of the roadway.

Drivers traveling on I-66 during this time should expect delays and should consider using alternate routes. Thursday, September 30, is planned as the backup night in case of inclement weather.

Details include:

Wednesday, September 29 (Thursday, September 30, is backup night)
