Demolition of Bridge Piers Continues During Overnight Hours at I-66/Route 29 (Lee Highway) Interchange in Centreville Feb. 4-6
Route 29 North reduced to one lane under I-66 nightly for work

FAIRFAX – Demolition of old I-66 bridge piers and abutment will require Route 29 (Lee Highway) North in Centreville to be reduced to a single lane during the overnight hours Thursday, February 4, through Saturday, February 6. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Thursday, February 4, through Saturday, February 6

Route 29 North at I-66

  • Northbound Route 29 will be reduced to one travel lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, and from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6, for bridge demolition.

This work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The I-66 bridges over Route 29 are being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. The bridges are being lengthened, widened, and raised to accommodate the new Express Lanes and provide room for any future mass transit along I-66 and future widening of Route 29. This work is being done in phases in order to maintain traffic on I-66 throughout construction.
