Cardinal Park Drive Closed at Route 7 in Leesburg Aug. 29 - Sept. 3
Detour in place during pavement reconstruction as part of Route 7 at Battlefield Parkway project
LEESBURG – Cardinal Park Drive will be closed at Route 7 (East Market Street) from 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 to 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 for pavement reconstruction, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Traffic will be detoured via Route 7, Battlefield Parkway and Trailview Boulevard back to Cardinal Park Drive.
In June, the new interchange at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway opened to traffic; also, the traffic signal at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive was removed and the Route 7/Cardinal Park Drive intersection converted to a permanent right-in/right-out configuration.
Construction continues through November to finish the remaining elements of the project, including:
- Adding more than a mile of auxiliary lane on eastbound Route 7 from Cardinal Park Drive to the Battlefield Parkway interchange, and from the Battlefield Parkway interchange to River Creek Parkway/Crosstrail Boulevard
- Constructing a shared-use path along northbound Battlefield Parkway and a sidewalk along southbound Battlefield Parkway, as well as pedestrian signals and lighting.
The posted speed limit along Route 7 will continue to be reduced to 45 miles per hour between the Leesburg Bypass and River Creek Parkway until construction is complete.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
