Bridge Work on I-66 East Over Sycamore Street Planned to Start on or about March 3
Southbound Sycamore Street sidewalk will be narrowed for three months

FAIRFAX – Bridge bearing replacement work on I-66 East over Sycamore Street will start on or about Wednesday, March 3, as part of the I-66 Inside the Beltway Eastbound Widening Project. This work will be in place until June and require scaffolding and fencing to be installed on the southbound side of Sycamore Street adjacent to the East Falls Church Metrorail Station entrance. The scaffolding and fencing, which will be installed for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, will reduce the width of the sidewalk to approximately six feet for a distance of about 100 feet. Access to bike racks and lockers will not be impacted.

This work is part of the I-66 Eastbound Widening Project, which opened an additional travel lane in December 2020 along four miles of eastbound I-66 between the Dulles Connector Road and Exit 71 (Glebe Road/Fairfax Drive). The project is also building a new bridge over Lee Highway (Route 29) for the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail and constructing a new direct access ramp from eastbound I-66 to the West Falls Church Metrorail Station at the Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Interchange. The project has also installed approximately 12,000 linear feet of new and replacement noise barriers. Learn more about the project at inside.transform66.org.
