Westbound Duke Street at I-395 Overpass to Close Friday, May 1 - Sunday, May 3
Closure needed for bridge repairs; detour via I-395, Seminary Road
ALEXANDRIA - Motorists and area residents are advised the westbound Duke Street (Route 236) bridge over I-395 will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 1 until as late as 6 p.m. Sunday, May 3. Traffic on westbound Duke Street, as well as traffic accessing westbound Duke Street from northbound I-395, will be detoured via northbound I-395, Seminary Road and southbound I-395 back to westbound Duke Street (see map). These closures are needed to repair pavement on Duke Street as part of the overall 395 Express Lanes project. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled or extended if inclement conditions occur.
This weekend's extended work hours are possible due to recent lighter traffic volumes, and will allow crews to expedite completion of this work while minimizing the duration of impacts to area residents and drivers. Drivers should expect delays in this area and are asked to slow down, remain alert and watch for construction crews working on or near Duke Street.
Work crews are following the most recent guidance from the federal and state government and are committed to the health and safety of all those who work and interact with the construction operation.
The eight-mile 395 Express Lanes opened on Nov. 17, 2019 and connect the 95 Express Lanes to Washington, D.C. Learn how the lanes work and plan your trip at www.ExpressLanes.com.
The 395 Express Lanes are a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban. See more details on the project and related lane closures.
