Traffic Pattern Changes at Nutley Street/I-66 Interchange Starting on or about Friday Night, July 17
I-66 West drivers will use temporary detour to reach Nutley Street South
FAIRFAX – The loop ramp from I-66 West to southbound Nutley Street will close beginning on or about Friday evening, July 17. The closure and a corresponding detour are part of a series of ramp closures and temporary traffic pattern changes being implemented at the Nutley Street Interchange as construction of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project continues.
Starting on or about Friday evening, July 17, drivers should expect the following traffic changes, weather permitting:
I-66 West to Nutley Street South Ramp Closure
- The existing loop ramp from westbound I-66 to southbound Nutley Street will close around 9 p.m. Friday, July 17. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west on I-66 to reach the collector-distributor road and exit for Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station. At the top of the ramp, drivers should stay to the right for Country Creek Road, continue straight as the road becomes Virginia Center Boulevard, then turn right at the traffic signal to southbound Nutley Street.
- This detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while crews construct a new temporary ramp in the northeast quadrant of the interchange. That new ramp will allow drivers exiting I-66 West to turn left at a temporary signal to proceed directly onto southbound Nutley Street.
In the coming weeks and months, drivers should expect additional changes at the interchange, including new temporary ramps and turn movements at the two temporary, signal-controlled intersections on Nutley Street. The temporary traffic signals and ramps will remain in place for approximately two years while the new interchange is constructed.
Drivers should always use caution and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs in construction work zones.

The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
