Route 7 Westbound Lane Closures in Herndon Oct. 12-19
Overnight and weekend work for bridge rehabilitation over Sugarland Run
Oct. 9 Update: Due to weather, the Oct. 9-11 continuous double lane closure has been postponed to Oct. 16-19. Please see details below.
HERNDON – The two right lanes of westbound Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) and Dranesville Road (Route 228) will be closed (weather permitting) Monday, Oct. 12 to Monday, Oct. 19 for work related to the Route 7 Westbound over Sugarland Run bridge rehabilitation project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The work will occur according to the following schedule:
- Nightly Work Monday, Oct. 12 through Thursday, Oct. 15: Two right lanes of westbound Route 7 closed from 10 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning
- Continuous Weekend Work Friday, Oct. 16 through Monday, Oct. 19: Two right lanes of westbound Route 7 closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
Drivers can expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.
The $4.4 million Route 7 Westbound over Sugarland Run bridge rehabilitation project includes a new concrete bridge deck, bridge pier and abutment repairs, guardrail upgrades, and new curb and gutter in the area of the bridge. The project is financed with state and federal State of Good Repair funds used for bridges and is expected to be complete in spring 2021. Read more.
