Public Invited to Route 1 Multimodal Study Meeting on Dec. 16
Participate in virtual meeting on the feasibility study and give feedback
ARLINGTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation invites residents and users of Route 1 to a virtual public information meeting Dec. 16, on a feasibility study of potential future multimodal improvements between 12th and 23rd Streets South in Crystal City.
In coordination with Arlington County, VDOT is studying opportunities to improve the safety, accessibility, and overall user experience on and across Route 1 in this area.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to review existing conditions, to learn more about public survey responses that were received in October and November, to ask questions and provide input as the study continues through summer 2021.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Register at virginiadot.org/route1multimodalstudy to attend the virtual meeting, or participate in listen-only mode by calling 877-309-2071 (access code 205-472-841). The study team will make a short presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. and answer questions for about an hour after the presentation. The meeting recording and materials will also be available on the project page following the meeting.
The public is invited to provide comments during the meeting or through Dec. 28, 2020:
- Complete the comment form at org/route1multimodalstudy
- Email route1multimodalstudy@vdot.virginia.gov or
- Mail to Mr. Dan Reinhard, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030.
ABOUT THE STUDY
The purpose of the Route 1 Multimodal Improvements Study is to identify enhanced multimodal connectivity and accommodations along Route 1, between 12th and 23rd Streets South, to meet the changing transportation needs of the Crystal City and Pentagon City communities.
As this area's commercial and residential densities continue to increase, transportation plans will need to address the wide-ranging needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, motorists, and other users while maximizing the safety, convenience, and sustainability of the system for decades to come.
Following the first public information meeting, draft recommendations will be presented to the public for feedback in spring 2021, with the final study expected to be complete in summer 2021. At this time, no construction funding has been allocated, so the study will not set design or construction dates.
