FAIRFAX – Lane closures and multiple 20-minute traffic stoppages will occur on Leesburg Pike (Route 7) near I-66 on Friday night, August 28, for overhead bridge beam installation on the ramp from eastbound Leesburg Pike to I-66 East. The bridge is being widened as part of construction of a new ramp-to-ramp connection that will allow direct access from I-66 East to the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail Station.

Details include:

Friday, August 28
Leesburg Pike East and West between Idylwood Road and Chestnut Street

• The left lane will be closed in both directions from 8:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.
• Multiple 20-minute stoppages of traffic will be implemented as two girders are placed over Leesburg Pike between midnight and 4 a.m.
• All lanes will be open by 9 a.m.

The I-66 Eastbound Direct Access Project will connect the ramp from I-66 East to Leesburg Pike (Exit 66) with the ramp from eastbound Leesburg Pike to I-66 East, providing a direct connection and faster access to the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail Station. The new ramp connection is expected to open in late 2020.

This work is part of the I-66 Eastbound Widening Project, which will add a travel lane along four miles of eastbound I-66 between the Dulles Connector Road and Exit 71 (Glebe Road/Fairfax Drive). The project will also install approximately 12,000 linear feet of new and replacement noise barriers and build a new bridge over Lee Highway (Route 29) for the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail.
