Overnight Ramp Closures and Traffic Stoppages at I-66/Route 28 Interchange Next Week

FAIRFAX – Overhead work on new bridges at the Route 28 and I-66 Interchange will require lane and ramp closures on I-66 East and Route 28 North and South during the overnight hours Sunday, Jan. 5, through Thursday, Jan. 9.

Details include:

Sunday, Jan. 5, through Thursday, Jan. 9
Left-Turn Lanes and Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Route 28 North from Route 29 to I-66

  • The two left turn lanes and the ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East will be closed during the overnight hours Sunday, Jan. 5, through Thursday, Jan. 9, from midnight to 4 a.m. for crews to perform overhead bridge work. Drivers will be detoured farther south to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right for Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.  
  • Two lanes on northbound Route 28 will be closed from Route 29 to I-66 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes on northbound Route 28 between midnight and 4 a.m.

Monday, Jan. 6, through Thursday, Jan. 9
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North

  • The ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North will be closed during the overnight hours Monday, Jan. 6, though Thursday, Jan. 9, from midnight to 4 a.m. for crews to perform overhead bridge work. Drivers will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right for I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
