Overnight Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages on I-66 West in Vienna Next Week, August 31 – September 5, for Bridge Beam Installation at Cedar Lane

FAIRFAX – I-66 West in Vienna will have reduced travel lanes and multiple stoppages of up to 20 minutes during overnight hours Monday, August 31, through Saturday, September 5, as bridge beam installation over I-66 and Metrorail’s Orange Line continues for the new Cedar Lane Bridge. There will also be lane closures on I-66 East nightly. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.

Details include:

Monday, August 31, through Saturday, September 5
I-66 West between Gallows Road and Cedar Lane in Vienna

  • I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Cedar Lane in Vienna Monday night, August 31, through Thursday night, September 3, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Friday, night September 4, and Saturday night, September 5, I-66 West will be reduced to two travel lanes between 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes each night for crews to lift bridge beams into place.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

I-66 East between Nutley Street and Cedar Lane in Vienna

  • I-66 East will be reduced to two travel lanes approaching Cedar Lane in Vienna from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly.
  • All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur. 

Cedar Lane bridge over I-66 is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
