Overnight Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-66 East Near Route 50 Continue This Weekend and Next Week for Waples Mill Road Bridge Beam Installation

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and intermittent traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes on I-66 East near Route 50 in Fairfax are planned to continue tonight, Friday, August 7, through next week for bridge beam installation and overhead bridge work for the new Waples Mill Road Bridge. The bridge is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes. 

Details include:

Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8
Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14
I-66 East between Monument Drive and Waples Mill Road

  • I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Waples Mill Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, lane closures will continue until 6 a.m.
  • On Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes for crews to lift bridge beams into place.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on weekdays and by 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
