Overnight 30-Minute Traffic Stoppages on I-66 Near Vienna Metrorail Station Continue Tonight, Next Week for Vaden Drive Bridge Beam Lifts
UPDATE (6/24): Beam lifts will occur tonight, Wednesday, June 24, with traffic stoppages on I-66 East between Route 123 and Nutley Street. Crane mobilization will occur on Thursday night, June 25, reducing I-66 East and West to one lane approaching Vaden Drive. Crane set up on Friday night, June 26, will reduce I-66 West to one lane approaching Vaden Drive.
FAIRFAX – Stoppages of up to 30 minutes on I-66 near the Vienna Metrorail Station are planned to continue tonight, Friday, June 19, and next week for beam lifts for the new Vaden Drive Bridge. The work will reduce I-66 East to a single travel lane during overnight hours tonight. Planned work next week will start with overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 East on Monday, June 22, through Wednesday, June 24, and on I-66 West from Wednesday, June 24, through Friday, June 26. Work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.

Friday, June 19
Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23
I-66 East between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Nutley Street
- I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive Friday night, June 19, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on Monday night, June 22, and Tuesday night, June 23, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
- Drivers should expect multiple 30-minute stoppages each night for crews to lift bridge beams into place at Vaden Drive
- All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. (by 6 a.m. on Saturday)
Wednesday, June 24
I-66 East and West between Route 123 and Cedar Lane
- I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive with eastbound closures beginning at 9 p.m., and westbound starting at 9:30 p.m. for crane mobilization.
- All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. in both directions
Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26
I-66 West from Cedar Lane to west of Vaden Drive
- I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive Thursday night, June 25, from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Friday night, June 26, from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic 30-minute stoppages each night for crews to lift bridge beams into place at Vaden Drive
- All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. (by 6 a.m. on Saturday)
