Lane Closures, Periodic Stoppages on I-66 East Near Route 234 Business, and on I-66 West Near Route 28 Next Week for Overhead Sign Removal
FAIRFAX - Drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages next week for overhead sign gantry removal on I-66 East between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business (Sudley Road), and on I-66 West between Stringfellow Road and Route 28. The closures are necessary as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Details include:
Tuesday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 8
I-66 East between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)
- Eastbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane between Groveton Road and Route 234 Business between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry removal.
Wednesday, July 8, through Friday, July 10
I-66 West between Stringfellow Road and Route 28
- Three lanes will be closed on westbound I-66 between Stringfellow Road and Route 28 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry removal.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
