Lane Closures, Periodic Stoppages On I-66 East and West Next Week For Overhead Sign Removal

FAIRFAX - Drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages for overhead gantry removal next week on eastbound and westbound I-66 between Bull Run Drive and Route 29 Centreville, and between Cedar Lane and Blake Lane.

Details include:

Monday, Jan. 13: I-66 West between Route 28 and Route 29 Centreville

  • Two lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes will be implemented between midnight and 4 a.m. for removal of an overhead cantilever sign.
  • Additionally, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville will be closed. Drivers will be directed prior to the closure to exit at Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South.

Tuesday, Jan 14: I-66 East from Nutley Street to Cedar Lane

  • Three right lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes will be implemented between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

Wednesday, Jan 15: I-66 West between Compton Road and Bull Run Drive

  • Three right lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes will be implemented between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

Thursday, Jan 16: I-66 East between Compton Road and Route 29 Centreville

  • Three right lanes will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes will be implemented between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal. 

Friday, Jan. 17: I-66 West from Nutley Street to Blake Lane

  • Three right lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes will be implemented between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
