Lane Closures, Periodic Stoppages On I-66 East and West Next Week For Overhead Sign Removal, Utility Relocation

FAIRFAX - Drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages on I-66 East and West next week for overhead gantry removal between Route 28 and Stringfellow Road and for utility relocation at Cedar Lane as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Tuesday, June 23, through Friday, June 26
I-66 East and West between Route 28 and Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

  • Three lanes will be closed nightly on eastbound and westbound I-66 near Stringfellow Road between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for removal of overhead gantries.

Tuesday, June 23, through Thursday, June 25
I-66 East and West between Nutley Street and Gallows Road

  • Eastbound and westbound I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane nightly near Cedar Lane in Vienna between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic traffic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead utility relocation.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
