Lane Closures, Periodic Stoppages On I-66 East and West and Route 28 South Next Week For Overhead Sign Removal
FAIRFAX - Drivers can expect overnight lane closures and periodic stoppages next week on eastbound and westbound I-66 between Compton Road and Route 28, and on Route 28 South between Westfields Boulevard and Braddock Road for overhead gantry removal.
Details include:
Tuesday, Jan. 21
I-66 West between Route 28 and Route 29 Centreville
- Two lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead cantilever sign removal.
- Additionally, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville will be closed. Drivers will be directed prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South.
Route 28 South from Westfields Boulevard to Braddock Road
- Two lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead cantilever sign removal.
Wednesday, Jan. 22
I-66 East between Compton Road and Route 29 Centreville
- Three right lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead gantry support removal.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
